In his third ramble on the subject of the Imagination Subhuti talks about the importance of having a living connection with the natural world; principally as this is the basis for ethics but also because it is an essential attitude, to paraphrase Sangharakshita; 'it is not possible to gain enlightenment in a universe that is not seen as alive.'
