How We Choose What to Believe - Reflections On the Canki Sutta (MN95)

by Danadasa (2021)

This talk was given on January 13 2021, one week after a mob attacked the United States Capitol building
where the extreme polarization of views was on full display. In the Canki Sutta (Majjhima Nikaya 95) the Buddha describes the various ways in which we go about assessing and choosing our views. The Buddha also explains how our relationship to our views can lead towards either suffering or towards freedom. When we insist that our views are right and all other conflicting views are wrong suffering arises, and when we relate to our views as provisional the doorways towards freedom remain open.
