The Buddha And His Begging Bowl

by Prajnagita (2019)

The image of the meditating Buddha reminds us that there is another way to live, an alternative to the busy, disconnected, hustle-bustle of our lives. The begging bowl that often accompanies this image reminds us, in particular, of a simpler way of life. In this talk, Prajnagita draws on the significance of the begging bowl in Buddhism, the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi Sabi which is steeped in the Zen tradition, and the modern practice of Minimalism to describe how we can live with less and yet have more joy.

Talk given as part of Culture Night 2019 at the Dublin Buddhist Centre.
