The Roots of the Refuge Tree

by Padmasagara

This first talk in the series traces the roots of the Refuge Tree back to the historical Buddha Shakyamuni and his Noble Quest as described in the Aryapariyesana sutta. Padmasagara suggests that the historical Buddha is our fundamental 'transcendental object' which, if responded to with faith and imagination, can help us to move more deeply into the mysteries of the Buddha's enlightenment.

This talk is part of a series of four talks given on the Cosmic Refuge Tree retreat at Padmaloka in February 2019 for men training for ordination.

This talk is part of the series The Cosmic Refuge Tree.
