Are Sangharakshita's Teachings Genuine Buddhism?

by Ratnaprabha

Following on from 'Sangharakshita, the Unenlightened Englishman', Ratnaprabha uses the framework of the Four Reliances (on the Dharma not the teacher, the meaning not the letter, explicit not implicit sources, and direct knowledge not the discursive intellect) to consider how to assess modern presentations of Buddhism, particularly that of Sangharakshita. He suggests that any teacher will need to translate and select from the traditional sources, and most will assimilate elements of modern culture to the tradition.
