Virya Or Vigour (with translation in Marathi)

by Achala (2013)

The talk starts with a metaphor from the Attadanda Sutta: that of pulling out a thorn buried deep in our flesh. The thorn represents our mental poisons. Pulling out the thorn requires a lot of effort over a long time. So spiritual life requires virya. Virya can be developed by reflecting on dukkha (unsatisfactoriness). Another way is to reflect on the lives of inspiring people. The last part of the talk uses the story of Bahiya as an example of someone with a lot of virya.
