Design from the Archive - Readings from the Pali Canon

September 27th, 2007

So the story behind this is that around the year 2000 (which somehow still sounds really sci-fi), a study course some people do in our community was being revamped to include some basic Pali suttas. At the time, we were finishing a project to digitally remaster all of Sangharakshita’s main lectures, poetry recordings and sutra readings for release on cd, and it occurred to us that it would be neat if we could get him to record readings of the Pali texts chosen for the new course, so we could use it as a launch disc for the new cd series. So we asked, he said yes, and we produced a commemorative cd pack with a beautifully designed slipcase and a little booklet of the texts themselves. The designer was Dhammarati, and it’s another example of working wonders with a very limited budget and little time… Many thanks are due to all the publishers who gave us permission to reprint these essential Dharma (or should that be Dhamma?) texts.

Latest Talks List from the Dharmachakra Archive

July 18th, 2007

Here is the latest version (in glorious technicolour) of our catalogue of audio recordings (mainly talks) by members of the Western Buddhist Order and other Buddhist speakers. The whole archive is now over 1500 recordings strong, and growing all the time as people send us material from all over the world. Only about a third of these are currently online, and this catalogue file itself has only about half of the recordings listed…

We’ll be adding new and older talks, audio books, interviews, seminars, guided meditations, retreat recordings, and question-and-answer sessions to the website regularly! Why not sign up for our updates email? And if you’ve any requests, please don’t hesitate to ask.

And then he went and gave more talks… Sheesh! So here’s something to bring it up-to-date (well, sort of). Is this getting geeky yet?

The original Dharmachakra catalogue of Urgyen Sangharakshita’s talks, from when we first started producing cds as part of the ‘Digital Legacy’ project. Here in its metallic-blue-tinted glory is Dhammarati’s brilliant lo-cost design (oh, for a full-colour print budget) that marked our arrival, at last, in the 20th Century — just as it ended! Oh well, better late, etc. …
