This is the first of two talks exploring the Mahayana Sutra called The Vimalakirti Nirdesa. Ratnaguna takes a fresh, clear minded look at the sutra in the light of current writings and also the thinking of Sangharakshita. He asks "Who Is Vimalakirti" and offers a number of possibilities: Vimalakirti is a community of practitioners; he is the bodhisattva principle; the spiritual imperative; and both an inspiration and a rebuke.
Talk given at Padmaloka Retreat Centre, 2009
